  • Spiritual Experience:
    • Summit was an awesome experience: I grew so much spiritually and really understood the love of God and the purpose He has for my life.
    Learning Experience:
    • Most importantly, I developed a devotional life while at Summit. I left Summit with a solid perspective on the true heart of ministry. There is a great balance of gaining hands-on ministerial experience and Biblical knowledge. It was awesome to have the opportunity to dig deep into the Bible through classes, chapel services and devotional time.
    Living on Campus:
    • Since the student body is smaller in number in comparison to other colleges, you can expect to connect with other students early on. Because there is diversity in the student body, I have made great friends from around the world! The campus is small, but quiet and beautiful. There ARE student rules and guidelines; however, the blessings from the Summit experience are much greater than irritation that comes from complying with the rules.
    BOTTOM LINE:
    • Pray about attending- as mentioned by a Fellow Alumni: Summit isn’t for everyone. If you do attend- Expect to meet with God in a profound way, expect to learn A LOT, expect to be challenged, and expect to make great friends.

  • I came here to take the focus off of myself for two years so I could just grow in my relationship with God. This school Changed my life in so many ways. I flat out love this school and the dedicated staff members who make it possible. God has His hand on this place without a doubt.

  • I attended Summit from 2012-2014 after graduating from an Ivy League University. I attended in the hopes of fleshing out my faith a bit before stepping into a full-time career. My two years here were two of the best of my life and prospective students should be excited for what's guaranteed to be a unique experience and intimate time with the Lord!

Academics: 3/5 Improving--not as robust as a fully accredited school but has grown significantly more challenging since I left and will no doubt continue to do so. Great topics and necessary ones for Christians to dig into to deepen our understanding of what we believe.

Student Life: 4/5 I made some of my best friends here. So many fun memories with my class and student council. Camping, water gun fights, ninjas in the trees, games at Rooster's, bonfires, jam sessions, movie nights--good times.

Food: 3.5/5 Portion sizes are preset as part of keeping costs low. For a college campus, food was decent and I never left a meal hungry. Fond memories of Taco Tuesday and buying way too much Mellow Yellow!

Dorms: 4/5 Clean and comfortable. Esther is newer and beautiful and gets a 5/5. Chapel is older and gets a 3/5. Men's dorm not included here.

Staff: 4/5 Mostly caring and accessible. In such a small community it's very easy to ask for help, talk through issues and have theological discussions. I also made complaints about rules that needed updating or things I thought needed to change and saw them happen. Sometimes as a direct result of something I said, other times because we spoke up as a collective. Students have a voice here.

Ministry: 4/5 Hands on ministry service that helped us love people and grow more comfortable with evangelism and discipleship. There's more emphasis on ministry now than when I attended. Very happy to see this. Also thrilled to hear of increased incorporation of the arts in sharing the gospel. It's so easy to focus on people who can preach and people who are musicians. But there is so much more we can tap into to--love that Summit is creating a space for unique expression of the gospel and hope to see more.

Alumni: 3/5 Love the recent implementation of the alumni retreat. Would like to see more facilitation of single-class reunions. Would like more activities that help integrate alumni. Less presentation, more participation.

Prospective students, the two best things you can do for yourself are:

READ THE HANDBOOK. It's posted online. Do your research before coming. Religious schools are generally stricter than secular ones. And Summit's rules are very unique and essential to its culture. And there's no point going there and complaining about them when there are a gazillion other schools you could choose to attend. Come with eyes wide open, ready to be an active and joyful member of this community.

PRAY ABOUT ATTENDING. Summit is not for everyone. Neither is any other school or ministry. That's why there are so many. There are lots of good reasons not to go there just like there were good reasons not to go to my undergrad alma mater either, ivy league or not. I recommend instead that you pray, examine your life and evaluate your walk with the Lord and decide after doing so whether or not you should attend. God speaks! He will move you in the right direction :) There's so much I could say.

  • I spent 3 years in this little bible school in the middle of nowhere from 2010-2013, and I wouldn’t trade anything for it.

From the get go I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, just as our walk with Jesus is never meant to be easy, but it’s totally worthy. So were my 3 years in Summit. I knew there would be rules and structures, there would be chores and curfews, there would be uniforms and limited access to the outside world, but I also knew I would meet God, I would hear His voice and know His heart. All of the above came to pass.

I went to Summit at the age of 36, having had a career in Fashion in New York, lived a life centered on me and myself for the most part. The transition from being independent in a big city to living a communal life in a small town was not exactly a walk in the park, but when God calls you to something or somewhere, He has already equipped you. All we have to do is to be willing.

My favor part of my life in Summit was the Chapel time. I got fed spiritually, experienced God’s presence, and I cried like nobody’s business.

Dorm life was a bit challenging for me. Being much older than the general public and having lived on my own for the previous 14 years, the constant rubbing shoulders with human beings was foreign to me and it took some serious prayer and Holy Spirit intervention to settle in. (Advise for prospect students: Pray for your roommate beforehand, it helps!)

If I have to sum up my 3 years in Summit to one word, that is “metamorphosis”. Going into school I knew I wasn’t the greatest person in the world, I didn’t know much about the Bible or who God really is, but I thought for sure there were some good elements in me, not much but some, and for sure God would take what I have, and fill in what I don’t, to make me a complete and finished masterpiece. Wrong.
God removed what I thought is “good” in me until there is nothing left, then He poured in the best of Him until overflow. He doesn’t want me to just be a “good’ person, He wants me to be a “God” person.

I am not saying I have "arrived" or I am "Holy" by any means, but the 3 years in Summit have completed changed the course of my life and I know that I know that I am on the right track with God.

  • Bonjour,

I moved from France to the US to study at SUMMIT.

From 2014 to 2016 I got discipled. What I mean by that is that this place shaped me through ministry, campus cleaning, kitchen duties, church services, schooling, fellowship...etc.

The 2 years I spend there were intense. The impact on my life is immeasurable. So many times I was looking at a situation and willing to blame a third party because as said the "training" was intense. My character got challenged and challenged; who is the problem? the third party, or me? I came to the conclusion that if I want to grow in my Christian life it is time to look at my heart first and let God deal with it.

SUMMIT is a great place to let God deal with you without all the distractions we can find in our society.

I do believe that going there is first a calling. What kept me there is knowing that this was my place. At times I was really wondering, ‘why am I here?’ but today I can honestly say that what God did through this school is awesome. Not saying I am awesome :p, just saying there is more Christ likeness in me.

I would recommend SUMMIT to anybody who feels attracted to it. If I could say one thing to anyone considering it, it will be: do not fear the challenge whatever it may be for you, God will do amazing things in your life there!

    Be encouraged and blessed,

    -Pierre.D
